No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
