No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
