Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players around the world. While wagering on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
