Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
