Seems like most men and women are usually talking about pre-flop strategy, so I would like to talk a bit about how I bet on immediately after the flop. Maybe I can help others, or possibly they have advice to improve my play.
I think that 2 of the most significant plays right after the flop are the semi-bluff and the defensive bet. Which is because these are the plays you make if you havent hit a hand but you’ve got a fine drawing hand. Its easy to bet on a hand if you flop a monster. Except I think that these 2 are the very best approaches to wager on a drawing. Each one is played depending on you challenger(s) and your postion. So here is how I wager on it, so tell me what you think.
Early Place – Tight Competitors:
A semi-bluff works fairly nicely in this position. Come out gambling and if a tight gambler didn’t hit a hand he’ll most likely lay down, and if he’s unsure you may well receive a call. But watch out, if that tight player comes back over the top it might be time to have away.
Early Position – Loose Opponents
It is had been I like to perform a defensive bet. Come to a decision how many chips you are willing to risk on your draw and wager. It is usually a much smaller bet than regular. It’s been my understanding that the loose player will usually just call a wager instead of re-raise. On the other hand, if you check to them, theyre more likely to throw in much more chips than your willing to pay.
Late Position – Tight Opponents
It is the very best time to try and do a semi-bluff, specifically if most of the table checks. If that is the case you will probaly pick up the pot now. If a player prior to has wager, you could have to decide if he has a hand or not. If not, then reraise and he will most likely go away since he was trying to steal the pot. If you think he does, properly then it’s time to compute your odds, and choose if the pot odds are worth the call.
Late Location – Loose Opponents
This one can be a bit complicated, simply because it is harder to put a loose player on a hand. And if your in late position against loose gambler, odds are they have already bet. That is had been I usually decide to take a chance and are available back more than the top of them and pray they don’t call, and if they do, properly then its time to gamble. Odds are although even a loose gambler will go away in the event you come back strong enough.
Bear in mind though that these are moves I only generate immediately after the flop comes and I have a reasonable drawing hand (usually not a gutshot either). Perhaps 4 to the flush or the open ended straight, for example.
