Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His pappa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
