Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the last table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
